"Afterlife" - A Cosmic Chronicle

"Afterlife" is a concept album that plunges listeners into the cosmic saga of an interdimensional entity, a being that regards all life in our universe as a dire menace to existence itself. The story unfolds as it sets its sights on the transformed human species, forever altered by the cataclysmic events detailed in Angel Rising's earlier masterpieces. The album cover, featuring the valiant hero Asai battling hordes of the undead, hints at the even greater peril awaiting him.

NUBIAN ROSE, the Melodic Rock sensation of the early 10’s, is back after a long hiatus. Their new album, AMEN, will be released on the 26:th of January 2024. On AMEN, Nubian Rose show a more progressive side of the band, but with their trademark foundation of strong melodies, great hooks, big guitars, and the powerful voice of Sofia Lilja. While writing AMEN, Christer and Sofia wanted to challenge themselves to take Nubian Rose to new frontiers.
“AMEN sounds very different, but hopefully in a good way”, says Sofia.  “As people we are constantly growing, so why wouldn’t our music grow? And what would be the point of making another ”Mountain”, or ”Mental Revolution?”
They wanted to cut all ”obligations” that creators very often feel because of outside expectations. “We wanted to let the music flow through us, not forcing the music out of us”, says Christer. We wanted to make a dynamic album and let all our sources of inspiration have a seat at the table.
The list of inspiration for AMEN is long and diverse, with everything from Judas Priest, Rainbow and Cheap Trick to David Bowie, John Carpenter, Dalbello, Stevie Nicks, and the amazing album ”The Wanderer”, by Donna Summer
AMEN is packed with analogue, vintage, synths. The gain level on the guitars is turned down a bit. Some of the songs doesn’t even have a traditional chorus and for the first time Nubian Rose has written a song that is almost 10 minutes long. But the more classic rock songs are also in the mix. The story of NUBIAN ROSE started in 2012, with their self-financed, low-key release of their debut album, ’Mountain’. With practically no pr, the album spread like wildfire in the world of Melodic Rock and soon they were featured in some of the greatest rock publications in the World, like Classic Rock Magazine, Burrn!! with outstanding reviews. Rockers like ’Ever see your face’ and ’Mountain’ together with the majestic power ballad, ’How am I', became fan favourites. In 2014 the band released their Sophomore album, with a slightly heavier sound. Classic Rock Magazine: “MENTAL REVOLUTION tears out the speakers” 9/10 / Fireworks Magazine: “I personally think that MENTAL REVOLUTION rates as the best mainstream Female-Fronted album of recent years” / Powerplay Magazine: “If the debut was good, then this has been necking steroids since that release” – 9/10 - NUBIAN ROSE chose Pedro Ferreira to record and mix AMEN in his SpinRoad studios outside of Gothenburg, Sweden. It was a perfect place for the huge analogue sound that they were looking for, with a Neve console, tape machines, a huge room for thundering drum sounds and a beautiful grand piano. Among a lot of other things, Pedro Ferreira produced the multi-platinum album, ”Permission to land”, by The Darkness. Some highlights from the album: ‘Memorial’. A short, emotional piece, where Sofia is experiencing her own death and funeral in the lyrics - ‘Dramatic Days’. The album’s first upcoming single, with thunderous drums, big guitars, and catchy synth hooks, made for the arenas -  ‘Break Down The Walls’. A high energy heavy rock tune, where Sofia brings out her inner fury - Bright Light. For the first time, Christer shares the lead vocals department with Sofia - Lost In The Mist. A powerful, progressive track, almost ten minutes long.

METAL DE FACTO Unveils "Code of The Samurai" Off New Album "Land Of The Rising Sun Part. 1" Out Feb 2024

Exploding onto the metal scene in 2019, Finnish power metal band Metal De Facto made their debut with "Imperium Romanum", a full-length with a theme-driven collection of songs about Ancient Rome that was bombastically nostalgic old-school power metal. These fresh but familiar songs quickly caught the attention of metal listeners worldwide, notably with the first single ‘¨The Conqueror’ amassing over 200,000 video views and over 600,000 streams on various streaming platforms.

In early 2020, the band held their first headlining show in Helsinki, which attracted fans from all over the world to attend the show in a packed On the Rocks club. This success quickly led the band to continue performing live, opening for prime moving metal bands Ensiferum and Beast in Black.

Consisting of guitarists Esa Orjatsalo (ex Dreamtale) and Mikko Salovaara (Kiuas), bassist Sami Hinkka (Ensiferum, ssSHhh), keyboardist Benji Klint-Connelly (Everfrost) and drummer Atte Marttinen (ex Kivimetsän Druidi). It was announced however in 2022 that former vocalist Mikael Salo (ex Thy Row, ex Dyecrest) would no longer be the band’s singer. On the same day, the band’s new vocalist Aitor Arrastia hailing from Spain was announced along with the announcement of the band’s upcoming second full-length album, Land of the Rising Sun Part 1. The album will be the first of two parts, themed after Japanese culture.

To preview their sophomore record "Land Of The Rising Sun Part. 1," Metal De Facto is unveiling the first single "Code of The Samurai", a triumphant anthem, a testament to their signature power metal sound. Epic and resounding, the single exhibits the band's unparalleled musical craftsmanship revealing at the same time its new partnership with new vocalist Aitor Arrastia. It captures the essence of their celebrated style, fueling anticipation for their forthcoming concept album.

"'Code of the Samurai' was one of the first songs we composed for the new album so it felt like a good choice as the first single. We already played the song live and seeing people raise their fists in the chorus, promises that this will become a great song for the future gigs. And if you think about it, what could be a better start to a two-album journey into the glorious history and culture of Japan, than a ride into battle with the heroic and noble samurai? adds bass player Sami Hinkka.

"Code of The Samurai" promises an immersive, powerful journey, upholding the band's legacy and captivating listeners with its compelling narrative and epic prowess with timeless power metal essence. Let's make Power Metal Great Again!

ABJECT MENTOR – ABOMINACIONES (Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Mexican Death Metal band Abject Mentor’s new album. This release mostly displays the raw and primitive aggression of the Latin American Death Metal scene mixed with furious Spanish vocals. However, this album also has some very noticeable Black Metal influences that will imbue you with darkness while you bang your head. There are also some melodious solos that make the full-length differ from a simple display of bestiality, but it is still undeniably extreme.
My personal highlights are the title track and “Apóstol Del Mal”.
I recommend this album to fans of Death Metal, War Metal and Blackened Death Metal.
My rating is of 8,5/10.

America's DESTRUCTOR stream new SHADOW KINGDOM album at NWOTHM

Today, American heavy metal legends Destructor stream the entirety of their highly anticipated fifth album, Blood, Bone, and Fire, at the New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal (NWOTHM) YouTube channel. Set for international release on November 24th via Shadow Kingdom Records, hear Destructor's Blood, Bone, and Fire in its entirety exclusively HERE.

Destructor formed in 1984, hailing from the steel town of Cleveland, Ohio. The original lineup consisted of guitarist Pat Rabid, drummer Matt Flammable, bassist Paul Warhead, and vocalist/guitarist Dave Overkill. Paul Warhead was soon replaced by Dave Holocaust. With this lineup intact, Destructor would find themselves taking Cleveland by storm, playing legendary shows with bands such as Megadeth, Slayer, Nasty Savage, Anthrax, and more.

In the summer of 1985, Destructor would record their debut album, Maximum Destruction, for Auburn Records and then license it to Roadrunner Records in 1986, helping to spread Maximum Destruction across the European continent. With the band's signature power-thrash sound, Destructor would gain a bigger and broader fanbase worldwide. In 1987, the band would gain the attention of major label Island Records, but tragedy would strike the band on New Year's Day 1988: Dave Holocaust would be murdered by a complete stranger in the early morning hours. After the loss of the beloved member and the major label deciding to pass on the whole record deal, Destructor found themselves struggling to stay the course for the next few years in and the American market ever changing with the birth of grunge. They would finally call it quits in 1992.

After much interest still gaining for the band, Destructor would reunite in 1999. After new member Jamie Boulder, AKA Athenar of Midnight, joined in 2002, the band would record the album Sonic Bullet. Blasting their way into the future with the following releases Forever in Leather, EP Storm of SteelBack in Bondage, and Decibel CasualtiesDestructor would find new life breathed into the band's fanbase worldwide.

In the year 2012, original member Pat Rabid and Jamie Boulder would depart the band's camp, opening the door for Nick Annihilator and Tim Hammer (Wretch). This lineup would continue the tradition of pounding evil for the next 10 years. Nick Annihilator would decide to leave the band but helped in writing two new songs and open the door once again for guitarist Mark Hellhound; Tim Hammer would also contribute a new song. With this lineup now set, the band would start recording a new record for new label home Shadow Kingdom in 2022.

Now, at long last, that album is ready, bearing the true-as-steel title Blood, Bone, and FireDestructor's first new recording is six years, Blood, Bone, and Fire is a timeless slab of PURE METAL, taking in speed metal, thrash, power metal, and traditional styles alike - in essence, same as it's always been for these enduring cult legends. What's more, it's been nearly 40 years since the original release of Maximum Destruction, and one could easily slot this new Destructor album next to it: sinister, surging riffs not without (mean) melody, varied but utterly propulsive rhythms, and the tough 'n' commanding vocals of founder Dave Overkill. Classy and classic in equal measure, recorded and mixed powerfully but thankfully not lacking grit, Blood, Bone, and Fire is simply a great record no matter what year you place it in. That Destructor have managed to keep intact their original '80s spirit but not lazily rehash past glories is something to celebrate; that they arguably sound fiercer and more fiery than ever is almost astonishing - and obviously something to also celebrate.

No signs of slowing down or weakening or giving in to trends, Destructor are ready to spread Blood, Bone, and Fire across the world. Join their crusade or get crushed!

In the leadup to its international release next Friday, hear Blood, Bone, and Fire in its entirety exclusively HERE, courtesy of the NWOTHM YouTube channel. Preorder info can be found HERE at Shadow Kingdom Records' Bandcamp. Cover and tracklisting are as follows:
