CONFUSION MASTER: German Doom Metal Outfit Prepares To Release Haunted LP Through Exile On Mainstream In November; New Teaser And Preorders Posted

German doom/sludge metal quartet CONFUSION MASTER will release their crushing second LP, Haunted, through Exile On Mainstream in November, the label this week posting a new teaser for the record alongside preorders and more.

Uniting four musicians drawn together from across varied punk and metal circuits, unified through their shared love for sound, misanthropy, DIY values, and vintage gear, the members of CONFUSION MASTER have earned merits in underground stalwart outfits such as Cyness, Wojczech, Bad Luck Rides On Wheels, and Aequatorkaelte. Their debut album, Awaken, was released through Exile On Mainstream in 2018, and having earned raving feedback from the international doom and stoner rock crowd, the group proved itself as a veritable touring machine. They provided support for Like Rats, Dopethrone, Crowskin, Bongzilla, Beehoover, and labelmates Black Shape Of Nexus, while conquering the 2019 edition of the mighty Roadburn Festival, all in one strike. Now it’s time for the next chapter.

After excessive touring on their debut album, CONFUSION MASTER again exchanged daylight for practice room jams exhaustingly and crafted four new tracks rooted in thundering groove, odd percussion breaks, and psychedelic swing. The Baltic Sea-based quartet once again delivers a crushing blow with forty-one minutes of raging intensity for your turntable, reminding you that the dead cannot die while they are still hungry.

Recorded during the comprehensive Winter desolation of 2020, Haunted was captured by Lutz Baumann at various live sessions in multiple rooms and practice studios, after which it was mastered by James Plotkin (Khanate, Sunn O))), Pelican). Clearly not to be mistaken for a love and peace affair but channeling hardcore anger in its purity, the result is a bonafide gain in horror cosmic doom with a strong Lovecraftian existential swirl, as reflected in the stunning cover illustration by Antonio Ilievsky/Pig Hands.

Fans of Sleep, Ufomammut, Electric Wizard, Yob, Goatsnake, and Black Shape Of Nexus should not miss CONFUSION MASTER.

IN APHELION premiere new track at Black Metal Promotion - features members of NECROPHOBIC

Today, Swedish black/death upstarts In Aphelion premiere the new track "Draugr" at the Black Metal Promotion YouTube channel. The track is the first to be revealed highly anticipated debut EP, Luciferian Age, set for international release on November 5th via Edged Circle Productions on CD format; the 12" vinyl version will follow in February 2022. Hear In Aphelion's "Draugr" in its entirety exclusively HERE.

A veritable treasure trove of Swedish black/death royalty, In Aphelion are a power-trio originally formed in 2020 by longtime Necrophobic guitarist Sebastian Ramstedt on vocals, guitar, and bass with prolific drummer Marco Prij. In 2021, with the advent of their debut demo, fellow Necrophobic guitarist Johan Bergebäck joined, making the unholy trinity complete. An impossibly auspicious first start, In Aphelion's first demo - despite being limited to a mere 50 copies - landed the band a deal with Edged Circle, now resulting in a teaser-length first EP and a grandiose hour-long debut album, set for March 2022.

Indeed, while the spectre of classic blackened death metal for which Sweden is known looms large over In Aphelion, it must be stressed that these gentlemen are THE grand architects of that incredibly influential and ever-enduring sound. And not ones to rest on their laurels, with In Aphelion do both Ramstedt and Bergebäck unfurl new vistas of the imagination whilst respectably remaining within that noble tradition. Simply put, this is timeless HEAVY METAL might painted in purple-blue hues but beaming with brilliant colors beyond.

Point proof is In Aphelion's first official EP, Luciferian Age. Here, two tracks - opener "Draugr" and the title track - are carried over from their forthcoming full-length, Moribund, and joined by the exclusive tracks "Wrath of a False God" and a cover of Kreator's "Pleasure to Kill." Totaling 23 minutes, Luciferian Age is a swift-yet-expansive sojourn into the In Aphelion soundworld. "Draugr" storms with a martial grandiosity, rallying the righteous before a darkly beautiful finale. The successive title track weaves a sinister march rife with devastating dynamics and an anthemic, arena-ready nature. The exclusive "Wrath of a False God" is a speedy yet shape-shifting gem of oldest obsidian, taking the listener on a climactic journey that's worth the price alone. And proudly displaying In Aphelion's roots is the closing cover of Kreator's classic "Pleasure to Kill," reverential and ripping. The icing on the cake is the grippingly powerful mix & mastering by Unleashed's Frederik Folkare.

Indeed, even being "merely" an EP makes Luciferian Age so much mightier than most other nowadays records: In Aphelion are prepared for a triumphant takeover with their forthcoming Moribund!

In the meantime, hear the brand-new track "Draugr" exclusively HERE, courtesy of the Black Metal Promotion YouTube channel. Also see & hear the previously revealed teaser video for Luciferian Age HERE at Edged Circle's official YouTube channel. Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

ATRÆ BILIS’ entire Apexapien album can now be streamed in its entirety early at THIS LOCATION.

20 Buck Spin will issue Apexapien on CD, cassette, and digital platforms this October 8th, with the vinyl to follow on December 3rd. Find preorder options at the label webshop HERE and Bandcamp HERE. Also watch the drum/guitar playthrough video for “To Entomb The Ætherworld” HERE

On Apexapien, the follow-up to the highly praised 2020 Divinihility EP, angular, blackened dissonance, exhilarating experimental progressivism, and crushing guttural savagery merge into a cacophony of violently discordant death metal, all held together with a strict focus, discipline, and astonishing percussive momentum. Thoroughly modern in scope and mercilessly severe in execution, the heinous battering inflicted on Apexapien establishes ATRÆ BILIS at the vanguard of a new breed of forward-looking death metal bands not content to simply pay tribute to or completely abandon the genre’s towering progenitors.

"Somehow, ATRAE BILIS hold our primal instincts and intellectual curiosity in perfect equilibrium - death metal for brain and soul alike. That takes imagination and talent. Chin-strokers and headbangers, unite! Here’s a fresh set of jams we can all get down to. 8/10" - Decibel Magazine

"...even though ATRÆ BILIS have learned pretty much everything they know from the masters of the genre, they’re not going to be content just recreating the same old forms and the same old patterns. They want to make a name for themselves, on their own terms and in their own time. And that time starts now." - No Clean Singing

“The jagged, intra-dimensional riffs on ATRÆ BILIS' eagerly-awaited full-length debut are handily up to the task of splitting your brain into multiple pieces. It's 'thoughtful' death metal, sure, but only while you're still capable of having thoughts.” – Invisible Oranges

"Get some cream for the burn because this is a thirty-one-minute experience of pure fire. The production is extremely slick—the album just sounds great. It is crisp and clear but the band plays so laser focused and brutal that it doesn't sound sterile. The mixing does a wonderful job as well to show the listener all the crazy things happening within the eight tracks. 9/10" - Metal Temple

“Death metal’s expansion over the past decade or so continues to be exciting to behold, and bands such as ATRÆ BILIS are the ones that will keep pushing its borders so that new ideas can continue to flourish. Apexapien is one you likely will have to visit a few times before it really sinks in its hooks, but once it does, you will continue to understand the machination even better.” – Meat Mead Metal

Empty - A Source Of Hollow Essence (Negra Nit/Vertebrae Release: 1 September 2021)

Negra Nit and Vertebrae labels are proud to present the vinyl reissue of A Source Of Hollow Essence, Empty’s first album released 19 years ago. Limited to 280 copies on 140gr gatefold black double LP, with this release the legendary band from Zaragoza complete their discography on vinyl.
In 2002, Empty’s necromancy evolved from the symphonic, melodic, and epic feel of their demo Eternal Cycle Of Decay to a darker and more technical sound, in the vein of the unholy black metal that was at its peak in those days. Vanth and Drizzt found new members that stabilized the band, allowing their approach to evolve. Damastor on drums and Orgall on guitars were that influx of power, and this is the classic Empty line-up, the one that brings a more personal approach to their music. Gloomy melodies along with excellent songwriting. In addition, Drizzt as the sole vocalist writes existentialist lyrics for this album and beyond.
A Source Of Hollow Essence was released through Blackened Moon Records (USA) and later re-released on tape through Drakkar Productions (France) and Morbid Reasons (Brazil).
Now, 19 years later, this first vinyl edition has been remastered at Moontower Studios, featuring a new layout with unreleased pics at the Monasterio de Piedra.
A Source Of Hollow Essence captures a very specific way of practicing black metal at an also very specific epoch, vindicating itself as an indispensable piece in the discography of one of the dean bands of the style in Spain. Needless to say, fans of the first period of Emperor, Enslaved or Gorgoroth will be thrilled thanks to that marked influence of the Norwegian black metal of the 90s.

July - The Tide - (Post-Punk, Dark Rock, Shoegaze, Gothic Rock)

FFO: My Bloody Valentine, The Birthday Party, Nightwish

The band ' JULY ', led by Freddi Hamilton (aka Fredrik Von Hamilton aka Frederick Banks) is the chaotic precursor to Vampire Nation . A 1995 show supporting Type-O-Negative `s Bloody Kisses tour raised July `s profile and soon they were known as one of the most intriguing bands in North America ."

' SWIM ALONE ' from the album LOVE APOCALYPSE by JULY is a combination of heart felt lyrics and raging guitars awash in a sea of sound.
