Drumming In BC Rockies - Param-Nesia Drummer Showcases New Playthrough

Drumming In BC Rockies - Param-Nesia Drummer Showcases New Playthrough

New EP “Aspect of Creation” Out Now!

Vancouver’s Param-Nesia unleashed their new EP “Aspect of Creation” upon the world earlier this June. The five-track EP is groovy and captivating with each song flowing from one to the next. Compared to the first EP “The Beginning” (2019), this new offering is a big step up in production and quality and will definitely get listeners rowdy. Meshing melody and brutality, they tell wild tales intended to take the listener on a journey. The band explains in more detail:

“It is more focused and balanced in its direction. The overall sound isn’t one specific thing. Some songs have a more melodic, triumphant vibe, while others are more somber, slower groove. But that’s the fun part, each one is a testament to the moment it was conceived, and a reflection of the evolving musical inspirations of each band member at that time.”

One of the lead singles off “Aspect of Creation” is the track “Forsaken” and today, drummer Derek Hill is showcasing his pounding fury with his latest playthrough along with British Columbia's monstrous Rockies as the backdrop.

"This playthrough was filmed off the Squamish Valley Logging Road, in Squamish, BC. I had this location in my mind for a long time because I spend a lot of time in Squamish Kiteboarding around all the glacier mountains. I've always wanted to play drums in a place where I felt very connected with nature, so I told my friend and videographer Darren Potts, along with longtime friend and bandmate Matt Burnham about the plan and they helped turn it into reality." adds Hill.

The drum playthrough for
“Forsaken” can be viewed via TheCirclePit's YouTube channel - https://youtu.be/JoMRBKtXsgo

The five tracks on the “Aspect of Creation” cross subgenre boundaries making this brutal assault of tech death and melody applicable for most metalheads, especially fans of Revocation, The Black Dahlia Murder, Arch Enemy, Allegaeon, and At the Gates.

“Aspect of Creation” is available on Param-nesia.bandcamp.com, Spotify

Midnight Guest tunes heavy rock with a modern look in new EP

Project by musician Daniel Stunges receives vocals from Canadian singer Kjetil Landsgard

As a bridge between the present and the past, Midnight Guest tunes 1970s heavy rock and occult rock with a modern look on their debut EP. The project created in 2020 by guitarist Daniel Stunges joins the vocals of Kjetil Landsgard, straight from Canada, and musicians Tadeu Correa on drums and Eduardo Oliveira on bass. The album hits streaming platforms accompanied by the video for the track “Hellfire (Do What Thou Wilt)”.

Watch here the music video of “Hellfire (Do What Thou Wilt)”: https://youtu.be/2-kSbpIU0lM

The genesis of Midnight Guest comes from the desire to create within the occult rock genre, popularized by names like Black Sabbath and Ghost, but which also had a punk attitude mixed with metal, as is the case with Motörhead and Misfits. This more analogue sound guided the entire production.

“We recorded with instruments that were at least 20 years old and with tube amplifiers. I sent the mixes to be transferred to ¼" magnetic tape at the Welcome to 1979 studio in Nashville, and to master I chose Arthur Joly who is a master of analog sound. It's because of this aesthetic that in addition to streaming, we'll also make one limited edition of the EP in color cassette”, says Daniel.

The lyrics are mainly based on religion and occultism. The single "Hellfire (Do What Thou Wilt)" is inspired by the history of the 18th century Hellfire Clubs and Stanley Kubrick's "With Eyes Wide Shut." The title track seeks to capture the atmosphere of some of Francisco Goya's Black Paintings, especially El Querore, in addition to references to the feature films “O Nome da Rosa” and “A Bruxa”. “Nunsploitation” talks about the Christian idea of purification through suffering and the exploration of this by the hierarchy of organized religions. Finally, “The Future is Vintage” talks about the feeling of living in a dystopia in the face of disbelief in science and movements such as earthmoving and anti-vaccine.

“Initially this project would be something similar to a solo album, but I met Kjetil Landsgard and things started to take on more band form. Both of us are already working on new songs to be released in the second half of 2021”, anticipates Stunges.

The entire creative process was developed from a distance and the recording took place in each musician's home studios, with the exception of the drums. The compositions were all signed by Daniel Stunges.
Midnight Guest's debut album hits major streaming platforms, and the cassette tape will have a limited physical version to be released soon.

Lipsia - Faustus - (Black Metal)

FFO: Darkestrah, Serpent Column, Sørgelig

Inspired by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe 's " Faust . Eine Tragodie ". Front cover by Rembrandt van Rijn, 1652. Black metal side project of Darkestrah .

"Faustus is a jewel of the underground, I must say. It represents almost an optimal state of raw black metal, a genre with a strong focus on the atmosphere and the melodies instead of a high level of technical performance."

"The intro contains several archived wind sounds, which are covered by noise as it approaches its end. Admittedly, intros are not necessarily a good addition to most albums, but the sheer cold atmosphere immediately threw me into the scene, and I just can't listen to this EP again without hearing it. The first real track on the album is "Die Natur ist Sünde, Geist ist Teufel", German for "Die Natur ist Sünde, der Geist ist der Teufel" and a quotation from Goethe, which matches the Faust reference on the artwork and the band name. It's very exciting to watch how the atmosphere slowly builds up and develops in a sad and very cold direction, which is simply the main feature of this EP. The harsh vocals of Resurgemus simply cut through the sound of the guitars and despite its incomprehensibility, it is very pleasant as it melts with the music."

"Resurgemus, the vocalist and guitarist on this album, has done an incredible job. The sound of his riffs is typical for the raw and atmospheric nature of early German black metal and can be compared to many bands from the transition of millennia. The riffs are technically not too complex, but more than justify themselves by the skillful use of the fuzzy sound. The production quality is comparable to a recording made with a Nokia 3310 in a basement, but that's where part of the charm lies. Good production quality is not necessary with metal as long as the available resources are used intelligently, which is the case here."

"Asbath was responsible for the drums and did a pretty decent job. His style is not too much based on blasting parts, which are quite pleasant and can be found on this album at certain times. The overall sound was not too loud, which is a very wise decision for this kind of music, as the focus should remain on the melodic and dark tones of the guitars. I was not openly impressed, but I am certainly far from being disappointed by the drums." - Vanass Heluphicclo - Metal Archives
