MALAKHIM stream IRON BONEHEAD debut album at Black Metal Promotion

Today, Swedish black metal elite Malakhim stream the entirety of their highly anticipated debut album, Theion, at the Black Metal Promotion YouTube channel. Set for international release on January 8th via Iron Bonehead Productions, hear Malakhim's Theion in its entirety exclusively HERE.

Formed in 2017 and hailing from Sweden, Malakhim's ascent has been meteoric if not patient. First came the band's self-released debut demo, which Iron Bonehead then released on CD and vinyl in 2018, furthering the Malakhim name and whetting appetites for yet more mastery. Still, for a first recording, Demo I indeed breathed mastery: patiently unfolding vortexes of orthodox black metal with more than a bit of death metalled muscle, all in obeisance to the powers of The Beyond, and coalescing into a fever-dreaming fury of hellish hysteria.

Malakhim may've been new in name, but there in fact exists a wealth of experience in their ranks, and that name stands on its own merits. And they swiftly proved that with the four-song/21-minute mini-album II, released during the spring of 2019 via Iron Bonehead. No great changes took place in Malakhim's iron-clad sound, but the quintet continued to flesh it out in bolder, more Beyond-pushing shapes. Anticipation for a debut full-length hit a fever pitch, and understandably so.

At last, it arrives in the form of Theion. Immediately and mesmerizingly sounding like the Malakhim of the past two short-lengths, Theion strikes with precision and purpose, clarity and crush. One could say, quite rightly, that the album is the pinnacle of orthodox black metal for the rest of the 2020s and leave it at that - and that one would be right. Yet, step deeper into Theion and find a majestic-yet-malevolent melodicism that harkens back to the ancient days of No Fashion and Solistitium; just as equally, that melodicism twists in unexpected ways, exuding a modernity that's palpable, palatable, and exceptionally multi-faceted. Likewise, the quintet's songwriting explores all reaches of the sonic spectrum, from slipstreaming speed to rumbling repose - if anything, their aggression has gotten altogether nastier - and all is encased in a richly 3D production that's professional and powerful, dynamically detailed but without losing any urgency. Or, simply, the sum effect of Theion could be personified in the song title "The Splendour of Stillborn Stars"...

Suitably, the album is graced with evocative cover art courtesy of Mitchell Nolte. Rejoice, rejoice! The hammer of Satan is falling, and the empire is crumbling: in its place stands the towering monument of Malakhim's Theion.

In the meantime, a week before its international release, hear Theion in its entirety exclusively HERE, courtesy of the Black Metal Promotion YouTube channel. Aforementioned cover art and tracklisting are as follows:

POUNDER reveal second track from forthcoming new SHADOW KINGDOM album

Today, American metal torchbearers Pounder reveal the new track "Hard City." The track is the second to be revealedfrom the band's highly anticipated second album, Breaking the World, set for international release on January 29th via Shadow Kingdom Records. Hear Pounder's "Hard City" in its entirety HERE at Shadow Kingdom's Bandcamp.

It was but early 2019 when Pounder dropped their proud 'n' powerful debut album, Uncivilized. Sure, the band had a debut single and demo in 2017, early on in their career, which were teasingly trumped by the Faster Than Fire 7" from Shadow Kingdom during the summer of 2018, but Uncivilized truly put the band on the international metal map and made ears stand to attention. Despite their collective pedigree, Pounder's stock-in-trade showed itself as a seemingly effortless, unselfconscious conglomeration of classic metal styles - from a firm foundation of NWOBHM on to hints of early '80s speed metal, Sunset Strip flash, and AOR accessibility. No one song on Uncivilized was exactly like the other, and yet they all sounded like the same band, and awesomely so. So many anthems, so many metal moments the power-trio sent out into the world for 'heads the world over to commit to memory and mark their lives: simply put, Pounder made it look easy, and FUN.

Wasting no time keeping that envious momentum going, Pounder return just over a year later with all guns blazing on Breaking the World. Leaner, meaner, and all-too-accurately titled, Breaking the World sees the band - vocalist/guitarist Matt Harvey, bassist Alejandro Corredor, and lead guitarist Tom Draper - getting both heavier and more anthemic, more American in their metal but also more wide-ranging in their reach. Comprising seven songs in a satisfyingly compact 37 minutes, Breaking the World keeps the energy flowing freely across these more concertedly epic songs, but not once is there a feeling of bloat or padding out lengths just for the hell of it; these songs charge, HARD, and are painted with solos of a godly nature and all sorts of tasteful twists. Similarly, the hooks literally HOOK you in - we dare you to get the likes of "Never Forever" or the Manowarring title track outta your head...won't happen, no way!

Above all, just like Uncivilized before it, Breaking the World reaffirms what's so invigorating and life-affirming about the art of HEAVY METAL. "We won't live forever / we just get one chance / so let's do it right," Harvey sagely sings in the album's opening moments. And in this state of the world right now, more than ever do we need Pounder to break it and build it back up again. "Give Me Rock"? You shall have it!

In the meantime, hear the brand-new track "Hard City" HERE at Shadow Kingdom's Bandcamp, where the album can also be preordered. Also hear the previously revealed "Hard Road to Home" HERE at Shadow Kingdom's Bandcamp. Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

5. Hard City [5:24]
6. Give Me Rock [4:59]

ORDINUL NEGRU – NEBUISA ( Review by Varg The Mighty)

Today’s review is of Romanian Black Metal band Ordinul Negru’s new EP.

The direction taken on this release is quite interesting, since it mixes the most occult and chaotic side of Black Metal with some Doom Metal (like on the title track) and it also includes some hints of Progressive Black Metal that give some further depths while being slight enough as to not interfere with the intended ambience.

This EP consists of 4 very complex and dark tracks (the last being in reality a perfect shortened version of their 21-minute long “In Ceas De Noapte”) that really become a fine addition to their discography and also takes the band one step further into an odd and unique new direction. These songs are surely worth checking out, for they each have their surprises and possible distant comparisons (like perhaps Gaahl’s Wyrd on “VodevilIsais” or Mephorash on “Maldoror”).

I recommend this to fans of Black Metal and Black Doom Metal. My rating is of 9/10.
