Today’s review is of American Melodic Death Metal band Idolatrous’ new album.
This release offers some Pagan-themed Melodic Death Metal comparable to Amon Amarth that incorporates epic symphonic intros and interludes. These songs also lean towards Black Metal at times, resulting in powerful songs with soaring atmospheres that don’t come as theatrical.
The particular tone achieved with the mastering also adds an extra layer of darkness to the album that’s interesting. These tracks are heavy and catchy, and they maintain a good balance that makes them tackle epic themes seriously. Fans of anything extreme and yet melodic may enjoy this full-length. My personal highlights are “Chasing Shadows” and “The Harrowing Reprisal”.
I recommend this album to fans of Melodic Death Metal, Symphonic Death Metal and Blackened Death Metal. My rating is of 9/10.
