Today’s review is of French Death Metal band Catacomb’s upcoming new album, out on March 23rd.
This album preserves echoes of the French Old-school Death Metal scene from which they emerged, but it is also fairly different from their early releases. Mainly, the full-length has a very epic aura around it that at times may remind of a Death Metal version of Rotting Christ or a non-symphonic version of Septic Flesh.
These comparisons are broad though, and these songs have a distinct character and freshness that makes this a solid release. There is also a Morbid Angel cover to remind you of the glory of Lovecraft-themed Death Metal. My personal highlights are “The Kings Of Edom” and “Blind Idiot God”.
I recommend this album to fans of Death Metal. My rating is of 9/10.
