OPPRESSION – THE ETERNAL REVIVALFUNERAL ( Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Russian Atmospheric Black Metal band Funeral Oppression’s new album.

This release offers a drowning and despairing kind of Black Metal that could be compared to the auras of Funeral Doom albums, though brought to faster and colder Black Metal territories. Combining their cold tremolo pickings with elegant melodies, the album has a modern feeling to it, and some amount of dynamism.

Nonetheless, the songs don’t really stand out too much, for they are too firmly based on the Russian Atmospheric Black Metal formula, so the sonority will be familiar to listeners of the scene. While the full-length isn’t spectacular, it isn’t really bad neither, and the intended negativity is certainly transmitted. My personal highlights are “Just To Live” and “For All Those Gone”.

I recommend this album to fans of Atmospheric Black Metal and Depressive Black Metal. My rating is of 8/10.
