NOTT – XX (Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Italian One-man Black Metal project Nott’s new album.

Celebrating Nott’s 20th anniversary, this release offers some cold and primitive Black Metal with no space for mercy. These songs are straightforward and feature no intros or interludes, instead pushing the unwary listener straight into the dark abyss without a warning.

Combining the frigid tremolo picking with epic chants, mighty shrieks and eerie arpeggios, the songs have an underlying complexity that may not be appreciated with the first listening. As so, it is an album that grows in quality with the more attention it is given. This hypnotic full-length may also very well be the most powerful release of the band up to date, culminating a lengthy escalation of angst and blight with a true definition of Black Metal darkness. My personal highlights are “Naked Apes”, “Conclave Of Fire” and “Twelve”.

I recommend this album to fans of Black Metal. My rating is of 9,5/10.
