Today’s review is of German Symphonic Black Metal project Daidalos’ debut album.
This release offers a highly orchestrated approach that delivers a maximum amount of grandeur throughout long and intense tracks. Nonetheless, this level of symphony comes at the cost of a great amount of the release’s Black Metal nature, making it lean more towards completely Symphonic Metal with just a touch of darkness and a faster tempo.
While some songs offer a pleasant kind of epic for Extreme Metal fans, it feels as if the orchestration occupies too big of a spectrum in the mix, completely concealing the guitars. If you want a sonic expedition through a vast bleak sea of harmony and sorrow, check this album out. My personal highlights are “Sail Into The Stars” and “Poem In The Snow”.
I recommend this album to fans of Symphonic Metal and Symphonic Black Metal. My rating is of 8/10.
