Today’s review is of French Blackened Death Metal band Deos’ upcoming new album, out on May 27th.
This release is full of powerful riffs that will give you a burning desire to march upon barbarian lands to expand the empire’s glorious frontiers. While their branding as Roman Extreme Metal is truly odd, it’s curious as they don’t play entirely pure Blackened Death Metal, although folk elements which could justify the name are lacking.
Their furious choruses and catchy riffs are good offerings of heaviness, but most of the melodies and solos are missing something and feel even childish, damaging the tracks’ integrity instead of reinvigorating it. Nonetheless, there are some memorable songs and the release is overall solid, even though it feels kind of long. Notably, there are some cool bass undertones that give a dark atmosphere to some sections. My personal highlights are “Decimatio” and “Cinis Ad Cinerem”.
I recommend this album to fans of Blackened Death Metal. My rating is of 8/10.
