VIRGIN IDOL – VIRGIN IDOL (Review By Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of American Heavy Metal band Virgin Idol’s debut album.

This release is an offering of absolutely old-school Metal, with some touches of Speed Metal that give it its necessary fury without removing the massive amount of rock n’ roll it includes. While the riffs are straightforward and pure Metal that may please any fan of true and evil classic bands, their combination with some Udo-like vocals gives the whole some identity.

While it’s not Thrash, the intros and certain approaches also bring to mind Onslaught. Some high pitched sections also have some slight King Diamond or Judas Priest vibes, and an occasional Van Halen-inspired shred proves that despite almost always playing power chords and pentatonics the musicianship is talented. It’s also notable to point out the moderately raw production that brings to mind the 80’s underground and the many hidden gems it holds. My personal highlights are “Don’t Touch The Flame” and “Satan’s Will”.

I recommend this album to fans of Heavy Metal and Speed Metal. My rating is of 8,5/10.
