SURVIVE – LIVE AT DEATH VALLEY (Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Japanese Thrash Death Metal band Survive’s upcoming first live album, out on May 4th.

Keeping the raw quality of the original performance to display a realistic idea of their capabilities, the band offers a glimpse of their discography and their ability to play it live.

While it may not be the best introductory release to the band, veteran fans and collectors may enjoy it. Combining some modern Thrash energy with low tunings, deep interludes, symphonic elements and an amount of melody which may remind of Arch Enemy, In Flames or modern Kreator, the songs of the band aren’t what an old-school metalhead may expect from the genre, but listeners of modern approaches to the style may like the epic twists of their tracks. This is overall a powerful performance, but for those who weren’t previously familiar with Survive it can end up being overwhelmingly long. My personal highlights are “Degenerate” and “Immortal Warriors”.

I recommend this album to fans of modern Thrash Death Metal and Melodic Death Metal. My rating is of 7,5/10.
