PESTIFER – AGE OF DISGRACE ( Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Belgian Technical Death Metal band Pestifer’s debut album, celebrating its recent remaster.

This album offers old-school Death Metal imbued in a great amount of melody and virtuosity. While it may be a bit dense for someone who isn’t a big fan of the subgenre, the overly compressed bass, ravenous vocals, unceasing solos and chaotic dissonance may please listeners of the more complex and jazzy forms of Extreme Metal. Perhaps an easy way to describe the release would be to compare it to Pestilence and Imperial Triumphant, but it also has some notable personal identity.

Although at times the riffs may sound silly and unnecessarily complicated to many listeners, it has its bits which may be enjoyed by a larger Death Metal audience, though it may cause some insanity to the unwary. My personal highlights are “Sleepless Century” and “The Worm”.

I recommend this album to fans of Technical Death Metal. My rating is of 8/10.
