Today’s review is of Australian Thrash Metal band Oratory’s upcoming new EP, out on May 16th.
The release offers 3 tracks that display the interesting potential of this emerging band. While in theory it is mainly Thrash with some Groove elements, the heaviness sometimes shrouds the frontier with Death Metal, and the fuzzy slowness of many riffs makes it relatively Doom, so the result is a mix of Extreme Metal brewed in an original way that doesn’t sound at all artificial.
In fact, the songs even have some old-school sonority that makes them gruesome and fairly catchy, while the groovy and thrashing base gives it a forward momentum that keeps the attention of the listener. If the band continues exploiting their unique approach, they will surely release some powerful records in the future, but for now we have a short discography to enjoy.
I recommend this album to fans of Thrash Metal, Sludge, Groove Metal, Stoner Metal and Thrash Death Metal. My rating is of 8,5/10.
