HARMONIAQ – THE FOREST OF TORMENT ( Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Canadian Blackened Death Metal band Harmoniaq’s album “The Forest Of Torment”.

This release offers some eerie and technical riffs which align with modern approaches to the subgenre that may please Technical Death Metal fans more than Black Metal ones. Although it leans more towards the Death side, it does have some dark auras, and they often encompass the whole soundscape. Nonetheless, fans of old-school acts may not enjoy the album, but if you like modern and complex directions you should check it out.

This release brings to mind other excessively virtuous Black Metal bands of Canada which have appeared recently, but Harmoniaq manages to combine their talent with mesmerising atmospheres, weaving catchy melodies in the process. Their personal touch distinguishes them from other bands, but old-school enthusiasts and purists may still not enjoy it. If their concept is further developed, interesting things may appear. My personal highlights are the title track and “Death Kneel”.

I recommend this album to fans of Blackened Death Metal. My rating is of 8/10.
