FORBIDDEN TOMB/ NANSARUNAI – SPLIT ( Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of the split between Indonesian Raw Black Metal bands Forbidden Tomb and Nansarunai.

This is a harsh offering of badly recorded evil at its rawest. While it definitely has an old-school aura, it also reminds of other modern bands of the genre, such as Lamp Of Murmuur or Frozen Fortress. At times the songs may feel monotonous and dizzyingly fuzzy, but some riffs and passages shine out from the tremolo-picked split of mayhem, especially on the Nansarunai side.

Although both bands have a wretched sound, it feels like Nansarunai manages to capture a better concept of the intended sonority. Nonetheless, both sides of the split may be enjoyed only by the most depraved of fans of Raw Black Metal. This release is not for those who enjoy comprehensible melodies and good recordings, only for those who dwell in the lowermost levels of darkness. My personal highlights are “Obsidian Temple” and “Cosmic Reabsorption”.

I recommend this split to fans of Raw Black Metal. My rating is of 8/10.
