Today’s review is of Dutch Melodic Death Metal band Spartan’s new album.
This release interprets the essence of the genre truly as a mix between Death Metal and Power Metal, combining the aggressive nature and roughness of the first with the ease to produce epic auras and a little bit of the upbeat nature of the latter to offer a modern piece of Extreme Metal with catchy riffs and powerful atmospheres.
As a result of their amalgamation, most bits have a forward motion that is almost comparable to Thrash while never approaching it due to their more melodic composition, bringing to mind modern Kreator. Some implementations of female vocals to sooth the wrathful passages also bring to mind Symphonic Metal bands, though their incorporation at times damages the main concept when evaluated from different preferences and perspectives. Fans of modern, melodic and moderately strong yet accessible metal may enjoy this release. My personal highlights are “Prometheus” and “The Trial”.
I recommend this album to fans of Melodic Death Metal. My rating is of 8/10.
