KAMPFAR – LAUSDANS UNDER STJERNENE (Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Norwegian Black Metal band Kampfar’s new single.

The pagan masters are back with a new track from their upcoming album, and this 8-and-a-half-minute opus seems to be a culmination of their latest endeavours.

With their early Folk roots present as always, the band continue with their unique evolution into untrodden territories, though once again you can quickly tell it is a Kampfar song. Despite the constant shift in their style, the band is still true to their origins, with new elements being merely an addition and refinement of their early ideas.

This new epic anthem combines the magnificent and incomparable power of “Profan” with the more elegant atmosphere of “Ofidians Manifest” and their Folk fascination transposed into gloriously sinister strand of Black Metal as on early works such as “Kampfar” or “Norse”, while also allowing for some traditional approaches to create ambiences that produce an interesting modulation in intensity with a natural structure nonetheless. As usual, the grandiose vocal performance makes melodies which alone may be fairly simple grow into a soundscape that will make you play the song again once it finishes, obsessing you more with each listen.

I recommend this track to fans of Black Metal, Viking Metal and Folk Metal who somehow still aren’t acquainted with Kampfar, truly one of the best Extreme Metal acts. My rating is of 10/10.
