Today’s review is of Dutch Blackened Death Metal band God Dethroned’s classic debut, celebrating its recent re-release.
This album is one of the prime examples of Dutch Black Metal, perfectly comparable to other masterpieces of contemporaries such as Enthroned. Combining their national brand of Black Metal with a powerful display of Death Metal in the likes of the Swedish bands, the band offers a hard hitting and yet epic collection of songs which still have some rawness when compared to the better produced and less spontaneous works they have released later on.
Fans of anything grandiose, brutal, dark and aggressive should check out this cult full-length if they haven’t done so yet. These songs are straightforward aggression combined with an obscure and unique sort of composition which allows for long and epic pieces of Extreme Metal. My personal highlights are “Infernal Sights Of A Bloody Dawn (Morbid Rites)” and “Unholdin Of Hewe”.
I recommend this album to fans of Blackened Death Metal. My rating is of 9,5/10.
