Today’s review is of American Thrash Metal band Flotsam And Jetsam’s early ’85 demos “Iron Tears” and “Metal Shock”, celebrating their combined re-release on CD together with 3 live tracks.
These demos display the raw and rough potential of an emerging band that would later become an important name in the American scene. Except for “The Beast Within” and “The Evil Sheikh” which are exclusively on “Metal Shock”, the other tracks would later receive a better recording on “Doomsday For The Deceiver”. Nonetheless, you don’t need to be a diehard Flotsam fan or an avid collector to realise the unique essence of the primitive versions of these songs.
Adding some melody and flaming solos to straightforward mosh-inducing Thrash, these early landmarks in the band’s career may surely delight fans of American Thrash who haven’t yet been able to get their copies of it. Truly a blast from the demented past. My personal highlights are “Iron Tears” and “I Live You Die”.
I recommend this release to fans of American Thrash Metal. My rating is of 9/10.
