Today’s review is of Finnish Progressive Heavy Metal band Amoth’s new album.
This full-length starts off in a classic way that may remind of Hard Rock or Speed Metal, praising the old-school similarly to Skullfist, but the songs’ approach shortly starts shifting into their true Progressive style, incorporating throughout the tracks neo-classical elements, disorienting rhythms and a good amount of virtuosity over a Blaze Bailey-like vocal performance.
Their use of Progressive concepts makes the music lean towards an epic sonority, but while the track list is surely diverse, in the end it starts to feel long and almost tedious, even if some of the last songs have some good concepts. In general, removing some fillers would’ve produced a better album, but diehard progheads may understand and enjoy more the songs regardless of the Manowar influences. While the release as a whole may lack some strength, there are some solid tracks such as “Alice” or “We Own The Night”.
I recommend this album to fans of Epic Heavy Metal and Progressive Metal. My rating is of 8/10.
