Milford Mocs & Gunther Cucs is a band with a very
particular idiosyncrasy. After their formation in 2010 as a side project
of Plowshare, the duo formed by Jordi Castells (guitar, voice) and
Guillem Tugues (bass, voice) released their first album with Picap
label, Cadàvers En Avançat Estat De Descomposició (2011), and then embarked on the release of numerous singles and the EP Aviat Ho Pagareu (2020).
Their
intention was to give vent to humorous, alternative themes and sing
exclusively in Catalan, but that hasn’t stopped them from getting more
combative at times, as in the aforementioned Aviat Ho Pagareu,
which features Alfred Berengena (Soziedad Alkoholika, Profundis
Tenebrarum, Baalphegor...) as session drummer, or their next double
single El Mantodeu, which will be released on Friday 4 March and features two “more serious” songs, with lyrics that “talk about abusive relationships and shitty life situations”.
Used
to inviting musicians or hiring them directly, for their new release
the band from Lleida entrusted drummer Joan Carles Marí (White Stones,
Face The Maybe) and recorded these songs at Heartwork Recording Studios
in Barcelona. This is a very eclectic band, who stylistically have
always done whatever they wanted to, and on this occasion, we find them
very close to thrash and heavy metal, with a touch of epic and even
blast beat at certain moments.
Milford Mocs & Gunther Cucs
have decided to gather a stable line-up for live shows, and for this
reason they have enlisted the services of Marcel Duaigües (lead guitar)
and Chus Nogales (drums), both from the now defunct band In Extremis.
The qualitative leap made in El Mantodeu is very noticeable, and with their consolidation as a band they can only go so much further.
