Today’s review is of Dutch Speed Metal band Martyr’s upcoming new album, out on February 24th.
This album offers some classic and old-school metal with the straightforward force of Heavy Metal, the epic side of Power Metal, a touch of Thrash Metal violence and overall the absolutely powerful essence of good Speed Metal. One may be reminded of Exciter or the German Speed Metal scene on this album, but it also has a unique identity that may only be achieved by a veteran band as Martyr.
This truly is a throwback to the 80s, with elements that remind of Saxon, Paradox or early Running Wild complementing the full-length to achieve an assortment of metal anthems that will have you singing along as you bang your head. If you’re looking for something that fits the clearest definition of metal while also achieving a degree of freshness, then you should check this album out. My personal highlights are “Raise Your Horns, Unite!” and “Church Of Steel”.
I recommend this album to fans of Heavy Metal, Speed Metal and Power Metal. My rating is of 9/10.
