Today’s review is of American Black Metal band Malum Mortuus’ new EP.
This release offers 5 tracks of raw aggression, combining the cold harshness of the most ancient kind of Black Metal with a fairly epic aura to weave grandiose atmospheres over bleak soundscapes, similarly to Graveland’s early works.
While some tracks offer a great approach to this marvellous concept, others have a more generic sonority that try and reminisce all of the Raw Black Metal classics and not obtaining much personality in the process. Nonetheless, these are few parts compared to the vaster section which shows a good identity that may please many listeners in the underground. If you’re searching for something simple, epic, satanic, evil and raw then look no further. After each play, the EP seems to acquire new depths that may captivate one’s interest more every time. My personal highlights are “Under The Raven’s Banner” and “The Blinding Of The Far Wanderer”.
I recommend this release to fans of Black Metal. My rating is of 9/10.
