Today’s review is of Spanish Melodic Death Doom Metal band In Loving Memory’s new album.
This release offers many minutes of heartfelt sorrow and gloom, delivered in a heavy yet atmospheric way. While it may remind of some acts such as Katatonia or Skepticism, it also has a modern aura that makes it fresh. Including a high dose of miserable melodies in their slow music, they also remind of Gothic Doom Metal bands in many aspects for their approach.
The full-length may feel a bit too long at times, even monotonous for some listeners, but the feeling that is weaved remains constant throughout the whole release, definitely leaving no space for joy or light. The songs explore many different subtleties that create a decent complete picture when joined together, and fans of anything slow and depressive may enjoy it. My personal highlights are “Lead Clouds” and “Fractured”.
I recommend this album to fans of Melodic Death Doom Metal and Gothic Doom Metal. My rating is of 8/10.
