Today’s review is of American Heavy Metal band Greyhawk’s new EP.
This release offers 5 tracks of classic Heavy Metal with a Manowar sense of epic, a Saxon-like confident approach, flaming twin guitars in the likes of Iron Maiden, an aura that sometimes reminds of Hell and some nice Power Metal influences to imbue it all in fantasy. The EP is very straightforward and offers Heavy Metal as it should be performed in an old-school yet fresh manner.
Fans of anything epic will enjoy the direction of the release, and fans of a more technical kind of Heavy Metal have some flamboyant solos to satisfy their need for speed, while any listener will have those catchy rhythms in their head for days. The way in which all the different inspirations are wrapped together reminds a lot of other Epic Heavy Metal bands of the NWOTHM, but this doesn’t mean that the songs have a clear identity offered by the band. My personal highlights are “Steelbound” and “Demon Star”.
I recommend this album to fans of NWOTHM, Epic Heavy Metal and Power Metal. My rating is of 8,5/10.
