Today’s review is of Swedish Death Metal band Desultory’s second album, celebrating its recent rerelease.
This full-length follows the same identity as the debut, but it also notably explores some new directions that would later become the band’s demise. Nonetheless, they are very well implemented here, adding some extra layers of melody that offer a more epic sonority reminiscent of early At The Gates. This concept is intertwined with their personal style, and certain songs even have a more direct feeling that reminds of early Death n’ Roll, perhaps somewhat comparable to Entombed but in a lesser extent.
The resulting album is another piece of legendary Swedish Death Metal with almost the same force as the debut, but adding some layers of maturity that depict the genre’s evolution and refinement. The atmosphere here is well-constructed, and it displays a good combination of aggression with elegance. My personal highlights are “Life Shatters” and “Taste Of Tragedy”.
I recommend this album to fans of Swedish Death Metal. My rating is of 9/10.
