Today’s review is of Romanian Blackened Death Metal band Decay’s debut album.
This release feels fairly short and straightforward, offering a powerful assault of Extreme Metal with some bits off melody and even a dose of catchiness that is more prevalent in Heavy Metal. As a result, the full-length has solos, bass lines and structures reminiscent of Heavy Metal, a strong technique that brings Melodic Death Metal to mind and overall the old-school fury of Black Metal.
This unique combination has taken a long time to flourish, but the final result is decent and includes some relatively memorable tracks. Nonetheless, the cross-genre approach at times provokes some roughness that could be avoided with a more direct composition, resulting in a loss of forward momentum regarding some songs. Despite that, it is a good debut that should be checked out by fans of anything original, melodic and fresh. My personal highlights are “Survive The Time” and “Evilution”.
I recommend this album to fans of Blackened Death Metal. My rating is of 8/10.
