Today’s review is of Russian Black Metal band Wintaar’s new album “Tear You Down”.
This release is a clear example of the Russian Black Metal scene, delivering a similarly harsh and rather atmospheric soundscape as bands such as Grima or Second To Sun, while also leaving some space for melody (though in certain tracks this element seems rather superficial and badly implemented). With these long tracks, the listener may be enshrouded by a mist of desolation, but sometimes monotony and predictability gnaw at this aura, leaving instead generic parts to damage the quality of other riffs of furious and high pitched devastation.
This album does not stand out, but it is certainly not bad. If you want some bleak Black Metal performed in a frostbitten way you may want to check this one out. My personal highlights are “Time Devours Light” and “Buried In My Own Sorrow”.
I recommend this album to fans of Atmospheric Black Metal and Russian Black Metal. My rating is of 8/10.
