Today’s review is of Ukrainian Black Metal band Omhosten’s debut album.
This release is an offering of pure Black Metal performed with a malice that reminds of the rawer bands of the style, though the album doesn’t quite fall into the subgenre, instead being more aptly catalogued as pure Black Metal. Combining frigid tremolo picked riffs with a slower paced mesmerizing aspect that despite the tempo has no resemblance to Doom and is more of a melancholic reflection of the songs’ intent amalgamated with their obscure fury.
With a very apt title, the full-length has a miserable aura of transcendence that has been crafted using the classic tools instead of genre-bending experimentation, delivering a feeling that displays depth, darkness and elegant negativity. Although some songs and the release in general may be too long for some listeners, it’s not-too-aggressive-not-too-soft atmosphere makes it an easy listen to fans of the genre. My personal highlights are “Will I Be Damned By All Gods” and the title track.
I recommend this album to fans of Black Metal. My rating is of 8,5/10.
