Today’s review is of Norwegian Gothic Metal band Voidanth’s debut EP.
This release has a bleak feeling to it combined with upbeat yet pessimistic bits added in a way only possible in this subgenre. Reminding of Paradise Lost or Type O Negative, there’s a classic feel to the songs that doesn’t impede their freshness or symbiosis with a more modern aura.
Thanks to a deep voice combined with flamboyant riffs with dark undertones the band achieves a great atmosphere that creates expectations. Mixing the purely gothic side with a very present Metal identity the result is also heavy and may appeal to strict metalheads who don’t mind some elegance if it has a purpose as is the case. The resulting release is not massively innovative but it masters well the subgenre and combines it with a clear personality to sooth the listener’s darkest lusts. My personal highlights are “Isophan Dreams” and “Devil’s Own”.
I recommend this release to fans of Gothic Metal. My rating is of 9/10.
