Today’s review is of Canadian Death Metal band Shadu-Nar-Mattaru’s new album.
This release delivers aggressive Death Metal which sort of brings to mind the Swedish scene, though this influence does not serve as an imitation. Their style is somewhat more personal, leaving some air to breath to fool the listener into believing their songs won’t crush them as any good Extreme Metal. Some songs bring the violent aspect to its limit and even approach Death Grind, while others take a seemingly lighter direction that is in fact just a statement of their dark and ever-looming ominous presence. Other comparisons may also be drawn, with certain tracks adding some extra rock and roll-ness reminding of Celtic Frost or Blizzard.
While the full-length is straightforward and enjoyable, some songs seem unoriginal compared to others and have a recycled semblance that makes the whole seem too long. Perhaps restricting the tracklist to the best songs would have made the overall feeling become better. Nonetheless, no track is truly boring and any fan of true and classic Extreme Metal may enjoy the release. My personal highlights are “Hounds Of Hell” and “A.D. (After Devastation)”.
I recommend this album to fans of Death Metal and early Extreme Metal. My rating is of 8/10.
