Today’s review is of Dutch Hard Rock band Redstacks’ upcoming debut album, out on January 21st.
Packed with great special guests, this album is imbued in a mid-70s aura of early Heavy Metal as performed by Rainbow, Uriah Heep or Deep Purple. Mixing the melodic and magical essence of the emerging genre with a modern production and a decent amount of talent, the release also has a slight tint of AOR and even Glam Rock in certain ballads, although the 70s are the main influence here.
Although some bits feel generic, those fast paced Blackmore-esque riffs synchronized with flamboyant keyboard performances gives an exciting undertone to the tracks. Fans of straightforward and slightly bluesy 70s Rock that recalls Heavy Metal’s development instead of dozing off between psychedelia will enjoy the release. My personal highlights are “Oceans” and “Jealousy”.
I recommend this album to fans of 70s Hard Rock and early Heavy Metal. My rating is of 8,5/10.
