Today’s review is of Portuguese Death Metal band Nihility’s upcoming new album, out on January 28th.
This release is a brutal display of fury as may only be done through Death Metal. Implementing some amount of technique while not boring with too much, the band has a modern feeling that denotes some distant influences of Blackened Death Metal juxtaposed with their nearer Tech Death and Brutal Death leanings, creating as so a conjunction where the songs never completely fall into a single subgenre and may only be deemed Death Metal.
Despite being fresh and powerful, the tracks don’t denote any vast amount of innovation, perhaps ending up in a monotonous cycle for those distant to the musical genre. Nonetheless, Death Metal enjoyers- especially those who like the American style- will find it entertaining in its putrid yet notably atmospheric aura, which may answer the question “What if Gaerea played Death Metal?”. Though definitely more straightforward composition-wise and directly aggressive, some similitude may be found with this comparison. My personal highlights are “Martyrdom For The Herd” and “Destroy The Shackles Of Prejudice”.
I recommend this album to fans of Death Metal. My rating is of 8/10
