Today’s review is of American Thrash Death Metal band Hellfrost’s new album.
Blending an epic kind of Thrash Death Metal with vast amounts of well-placed melody and a pinch of Black Metal, the band creates here an Iron Maiden-like aura translated into heavier subgenres while always maintaining a powerful base. Though sometimes the songs go surprisingly near Heavy Metal, the Death Metal influence is always there, also reminding of Death in a way, while the distant thrashness brings to mind certain modern tracks of Sodom.
While the release is hard to pin in a single subgenre, this is not due to Progressive complexities and as so it may be enjoyed by fans of many sorts of classic Metal. If you want something melodic, slightly dark, epic, heavy and yet loyal to Rock n’ Roll you’re pretty fussy, but this full-length will have you covered. My personal highlights are “Abomination” and “The Descent”.
I recommend this album to fans of Thrash Death Metal, Melodic Thrash Metal, Black Thrash Metal and the likes. My rating is of 8,5/10.
