Today’s review is of Italian Blackened Death Metal band Deathcvlt’s debut album.
This album leans almost entirely on the Death Metal side of the subgenre, with Black Metal being only present as a slight tint in the melodies. This album also seems to take heavy influences of Melodic Death Metal, which are combined with their sound to weave an epic soundscape that despite its interesting undertones seems to miss some depth.
While some bits may sound as generic Dark Funeral or Dimmu Borgir inspired Blackened Death Metal, other parts have a personal touch that seems to have the potential to be decently developed for future releases. One doesn’t need to be very deep into Extreme Metal to appreciate this release, so it may serve as an introductory full-length to heavier subgenres for people who enjoy notable amounts of melody in their riffs. There certainly is something lurking in these songs awaiting a clearer form in the band’s next opus. My personal highlights are “Santa Muerte” and “Damnation And Suffering”.
I recommend this album to fans of Blackened Death Metal and Melodic Death Metal. My rating is of 8/10.
