Today’s review is of American Thrash Metal band Sentinel Beast’s sole album, celebrating its recent rerelease.
This release includes a form of Thrash that instead of leaning to the most brutal side adopts a fast yet upbeat tone that has distant reminders of Punk. The full-length leans mainly towards Speed Metal in most aspects, but it also seems to include the approach of early Power Metal, making it an interesting yet overlooked piece of metal history.
While many comparisons may be drawn with Helloween, the album doesn’t completely copy the contemporary surge of the genre in Germany, instead taking their own less fantastic and more down-to-earth interpretation that would later form USPM. The album also sounds as a sped up version of early Iron Maiden, which is a nice influence that has gotten well mixed with their mainly Thrash component, a fact that is made very clear with their cover of “Phantom Of The Opera”. My personal highlights are “Mourir” and “Sentinel Beast”.
I recommend this album to fans of Thrash Metal, Speed Metal and early Power Metal. My rating is of 8,5/10.
