INVASION – BARBARIAN INVASION ( Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of the early demo compilation of Catalan Heavy Metal band Invasion (later renamed Barbarian).

This offering of 11 tracks of raw potential from 2000 to 2003 includes powerful and fairly catchy Heavy Metal in an Iron Maiden-esque amount of old-school flagrant melodies, and it also displays influences of 80s Spanish Heavy Metal such as Barón Rojo, not only in the vocal performance but also in the compositions.

It’s also worth noting that many songs have a rougher edge than usual Heavy Metal, flirting every now and then with Speed Metal and sometimes even Thrash, although less commonly. Both before and after the band’s renaming you may appreciate on this release some tracks of quality Heavy Metal such as “Torquemada”, “Parásito” or “Máquina Infernal”, surely the beginning of a decent band.

I recommend this album to fans of Heavy Metal and Speed Metal. My rating is of 8,5/10.
