VERSUS – CONFESSION (Review by Varg The Mighty )

Today’s review is of Greek Heavy Metal band Versus’ previously unreleased 1984 album, which has finally seen the light this month.

Leaning towards a really 70s directions in the likes of Rainbow Deep Purple or early Scorpions, this album is a catchy piece of psychedelia that also catches the essence of early Heavy Metal, an example of this being the melodic interludes that are prominent on Iron Maiden tracks. Mixing this concept with a Hellenic approach and perpetrated with a lot of talent in the hands of all the musicians, the result is a fun full-length that would have probably received a certain cult status by now had it been released when it was recorded. The feeling here transmitted may very easily be compared to the works of Uli Jon Roth or Ritchie Blackmore, and the accompanying synths give great Uriah Heep vibes too.

Fans of carefree old-school Rock with some Prog influences may also enjoy the release. My personal highlights are “Confession” and “Where The Rainbow Ends”.

I recommend this album to fans of Heavy Metal and 70s Rock. My rating is of 9/10.
