Hellsword - Cold is the grave (2021). (Review By Alex Mandel )

Slovenian group formed in 2009 that finally released the first full length. After a powerful intro we find ourselves with the song that gives the album its name: Cold is the grave. Pure black thrash. We are facing a group that practices the same style as Nifelheim or Disaster. Nothing new under the sun, okay. It looks a lot like the other bands, okay. They sound the same, okay. They are from the heap ... I'm not worth it.
Nine songs that go fast and well on a debut album. Excellently well executed. Topics more than correct. Come on, it is musically impeccable but they already mark you from the first song, the first on the forehead.
Call of the Sepulcher reminds me of Midnight or Toxic Holocaust. The influences are noticeable but they continue to mark that fine line that defines their own personality.
Satan, Death and Fear for example reaffirm me in the influences. And is that you can listen to the entire album that has no waste. Riders of Wrath, Cursed Blood ... well-matched songs, none left over. The times vary as in Cursed Blood, which is more at half time and gives it a different rhythm, breaking the lack of the rest of the songs because then immediately they hit it with Unholy Reich.
The more I listen to the group, the more I like it, honestly but the most powerful song, to my liking, they save it for the end. Evil’s Rebirth. Without despising the others at all, this is the icing on the cake and they have left it the last to leave us with our mouths open. It's a hoot.
In short, it is a debut album by a trio that has been around for more than a decade and it shows in how well they carry the songs. Maybe I see them too similar to other bands of the genre but to be the first album, it is the host. It will be very interesting to see how they evolve.
8/10
