HELLGARDEN – RISE OF THE BEAST ( Review by Varg The Mighty)

Today’s review is of Chilean Symphonic Black Metal band Hellgarden’s upcoming new album, out on December 10th.

Delivering old-school Symphonic Black Metal in the most flamboyant and synth-prevalent way, the album strides towards the epic and elegant, while a touch of eeriness is never forgotten between the parts that take a more (perhaps exaggerated) Blackened Death Metal approach.

With a fairly raw sound for the subgenre, the album may feel generic for some at times, but then some interesting solo may suddenly appear, or some catchy chorus may make you abandon such thoughts. Diehard fans of the subgenre will find this one appealing, given the lack of unnecessary experimentation. With their aura well-conceived, the band deliver what is already known to work and what they do best. My personal highlights are “Blackwolf” and “When Witches Burn”.

I recommend this album to fans of Symphonic Black Metal. My rating is of 8,5/10.
