Yesterday we attended the presentation of the second album "Has its dark" (2020) by Erik Aguilar Zaragoza with the artistic name Erik Segel, singer, composer, performer, poet, music teacher and incidentally "Piece of artistic animal".
He is also a singer in Meinstein (A Rammstein Live Experience), a tribute band to the German Rammstein of great musical and scenic quality that is gaining great recognition even outside our borders, at the same time with these incendiaries .....
The appointment was at the Auditori Can Roig i Torres in his native Santa Coloma (city adjacent to Barcelona), as he had already done in the presentation of his career as a singer-songwriter and of his first album "One - Night Marriage (2019), solo that there he chose a small Stage Space in that city with a very reduced capacity since his idea was to make the presentation for family members, friends and the rest of the very few tickets for sale to the public.
This time he returned to the charge in the Auditorium putting 100 tickets for sale that sold out time before the date, carrying himself the promotion and sale of tickets for the concert among his public, without squeezing art sales platforms ..... .How great Erik !!!!.
Erik came out on stage wrapped in an ovation from the mostly non-rocker audience and followers of his more intimate solo career, although there were a number of followers of his two artistic aspects: the song-songwriter and the Metalhead.
On this occasion I change the small stage and keyboard for an imposing Yamaha grand piano and a large stage of the Auditori with impressive acoustics, a 12 out of 10 to the sound technicians, concise lighting of 4 or 5 white spotlights that decreased or increased their intensity giving more or less intimate atmospheres as required by the performance and a video screen that he himself commanded from one side of the piano, on it sometimes videos of melancholic images in black and white were projected as imposing mountains in mist, rain on glass of window, some old images, etc ... with their overwritten songs translated into Spanish since all their repertoire is in English.
Note that in the presentation of this album his vocal range is more extensive, diverse and brutally sentimental, pulling less bass than in his previous stage, more like Leonard Cohen, whom Erik admires.
The atmosphere that he created with his sound was dark and melancholic, enlivened between song and song by a poem recited in Spanish or by narrating an experience of his own with some touches of humor.
In the interpretation of The Slavery Day on the video screen, he was accompanied by a recording dubbing with female voices and gently humming the mezzo-soprano Noa Millán who collaborates on this second album.
This Has its Dark was conceived during the confinement and pandemic of Covid -19 with all the stress and depression that I believe at its most critical point, therefore its lyrics are more of a meditation nature and knowledge about the same "I".
Putting it right now, he played an instrumental theme that is not on either of the two albums in which he claimed not to plunder the public health anymore and while he interpreted it, news fragments and shocking stories to these of people in the middle of the crisis of the respirators sounded. , death figures, etc ... letting horror speak for itself.
Finished 90 minutes of recital with Summer, the song that also closes the album, of which he told us that it was going to be more lively and he lied to us like a rogue.
Saying goodbye to the concert with greetings and the audience standing to a great standing ovation.
Both at the entrance and at the exit of the concert, we had the opportunity to chat and laugh a lot with Josep Diaz, David Sarabia, Manel Muñoz, his colleagues in Meinstein and their partners and group of friends.
Erik went out for a while to chat and sign CDs that his mother had sold shortly before in the Auditori hall, devoting great attention and kindness to each fan who asked for it, in my case when I ordered the tickets for Ana and mine I ordered two copies from him of his latest work and an old book that has dark poetry "Luz de Velas" (2013) of which he has a copy left and is reluctant to sell it, because he considers that it belongs to another era with which he does not feel identified, but the Anyway, he agreed to bring it to me and since I was the last in the signatures after finishing with my two CDs, I told him:
- Erik in 30 seconds surprise me writing something in this book.
He surprised said:
- The fact that ??
Me too :
- Whatever you want, you are the artist
- But it won't rhyme ...
- That yourself, I don't mess with it.
And ... he began to write a beautiful improvised poem under the title of my copy of "Luz de velas".
Fuck and I got what I wanted to have, the essence of the artist in raw!
In short, a great evening with an intimate concert of songwriter and reunion between friends and new friends.
