Today’s review is of Spanish Blackened Death Metal band Barbarian Prophecies’ new album.
This release includes some powerful and wretched Extreme Metal that has a point of elegance which adds a flamboyant essence to the songs while never interfering with their sonic carnage. Taking a dark yet not too divergent Black Metal approach and topping it with some melody besides the Death Metal side of the subgenre, the result obtained is this opus of cruelty.
Perhaps at times the amount of melodic passages may gnaw at the otherwise straightforward and violent approach, but this fact is compensated with a powerful vocal performance and the song writing capabilities of a veteran band. Although as a whole the album may feel somewhat mediocre and typical, it has certain songs that are more outstanding. Fans of Extreme Metal should enjoy the full-length and find it an easy listen. The release is good if you want some direct and blunt Blackened Death Metal done with feeling that avoids any experimental absurdities. My personal highlights are “Alpha” and “Übermensch”.
I recommend this album to fans of Blackened Death Metal and Melodic Black Metal. My rating is of 8/10.
