Today’s review is of American Thrash Death Metal band Abomination’s classic debut, celebrating its recent rerelease.
This album may be considered one of the earliest examples of Death Metal, though for the strictest the Thrash elements are still too apparent. Taking Thrash’s aggressive sound and speed to a whole new level, the wrathful yet fun sound of this album exemplifies well the transitional period that marked the rise of Extreme Metal. While the technique appreciated on the riffs may be comparable to Possessed, the complication on these sometimes dazzles and injures the brutality of the songs in a way that was carefully procured not to happen by the latter band.
Although this band can’t be revered in the same way as Possessed, Death, Pestilence or other pioneers, it still deserves some cult status at the same level as Demolition Hammer or other lesser known early OSDM acts. The straightforward and absolutely carefree approach on songs such as “Murder, Rape, Pillage And Burn” or “Suicidal Dreams” makes the full-length appealing for any fan of rougher American Thrash Metal. This surely is a piece of overlooked metal history.
I recommend this album to fans of Thrash Death Metal. My rating is of 8,5/10.
