Today’s review is of Malaysian Black Metal band Silenced Minstrel’s new album, “Volume 666”.
Following the raw and chaotic direction of “Volume 5”, this time the chaos displayed seems to be more ordered, although the rawness isn’t lost with this transition. While some songs are interestingly unique and intense (such as “Faceless Pallbearers” or “The Path Of Light And Darkness”), others are somewhat boring and seem to solely contribute to an excessive album length.
Nonetheless, fans of the band will find this album to faithfully follow the same music directions, combining the unusual vocal performance with the free space for melodies to occasionally bloom upon relentless speed and cutthroat riffs.
I recommend this album to fans of Raw Black Metal. My rating is of 7/10.
