Today’s review is of Spanish Groove Metal band Selfaware’s debut album.
Wrapped in a Progressive Metal tint, this album is a much more easy-going listen than most albums of the genre, and while it is clearly coated in modernity, it includes some visible touches of Elegy/Tuonela-era Amorphis. Considering these elements, the album still includes some notable heaviness, although most of it is lightened especially with a soothing vocal performance with commercial capabilities.
Although the album may feel somewhat repetitive or long at times, it may serve as a good introduction for newcomers to heavier genres. The release also shows some hidden capabilities ready to mature in a future album. My personal highlights are “Chaos Theory” and “Damage Is Done”.
I recommend this album to fans of Groove Metal and Progressive Metal. My rating is of 7,5/10.
