Today’s review is of Irish Folk Metal band Ren Marabou’s new album.
Mixing the pagan essence of the genre with a modern approach, you may compare the release loosely to current Enslaved, although there are also elements of Folk Rock and even Alcest-like Shoegaze present. The Metal background isn’t forgotten neither, with heavier riffs appearing every now and then, even when the atmosphere wouldn’t really be catalogued as extreme.
This
alternative approach to Folk Metal is pretty curious and unique, and while the
music is prone to innovation, the lyrics are rightfully deep-rooted in Norse
mythology. The bits of slight Alternative Metal also add some grooves that are
interesting. While the album fluctuates between upbeat
and calmer songs, some
highlights would be “Guide Me To Asgard” and “Put To The Sword”.
I recommend this album to fans of Folk Metal, Shoegaze and Folk Rock. My rating is of 8,5/10
