Today’s review is of German Death Metal band Morgoth’s album “Ungod”, celebrating its rerelease.
Marking a return to the style that gave them their cult status, this neglected album may very well be at the same height as “Resurrection Absurd” or “Cursed”. Despite the line-up change (especially the change of singer, though the replacement has a pretty similar vocal performance), the band continues releasing Death worshipping Extreme Metal with a touch of European Death Metal and a vast amount of darkness incorporated in the composition.
Fans of their classic albums should really enjoy this release, which surely has no fillers and continues delivering their ominous passages of slightly slower OSDM, giving an epic aura to the full-length, perhaps broadly comparable with Asphyx’s latest album though never forgetting the pure Morgoth approach. My personal highlights are “Voice Of Slumber”, “Nemesis” and the relentless instrumental “The Dark Sleep”.
I recommend this album to fans of OSDM. My rating is of 9,5/10.
