Today’s review is of Greek Progressive Rock band Fragment Soul’s debut album.
In their personal pursuit of beauty through atmosphere and hints of darkness, the band seem to stray notably from the rock schemes, with even the drums being absent from time to time. Perhaps an interesting comparison would be with Tool’s interludes, although they also rely heavily on pretty piano melodies that usually lead the music.
Nonetheless, there are also some slight bits of heavier music that would be considered Progressive Metal, but they are scarce and don’t interfere with the ambience. Consisting of only 4 long tracks, this album may only interest the most extreme progheads, and by fans of other genres this one may not be fully appreciated. Combining male and female vocals, modern and classic prog approaches, this band has a unique essence.
I recommend this album to fans of Prog Rock and Prog Metal. My rating is of 7,5/10.
