Today’s review is of Canadian Death Metal band The Blood Of Christ’s demo “Frozen Dreams”, celebrating its cassette and CD re-release.
These 5 tracks offered an early view of what would become a really unique band back in 1994. Combining the putrescent Grindcore of Carcass with the brutality of Cannibal Corpse or Morbid Angel and slight yet present touches of Doom Metal, these songs achieve a really unique identity and some really dark undertones that will immerse you in a sea of desperation.
Although the mix of Grindcore with Death Doom may seem unlikely, they managed to give it a natural feeling that adds a lot of depths of obscurity. These songs also never falter in their extremity, with each and every second allowing the listener to savagely bang their head in delight. Despite the great remixing and remastering done by Dan Swanö, the original demo feeling is neatly preserved.
I recommend this demo to fans of OSDM, Death Doom Metal, Deathgrind and Brutal Death Metal. My rating is of 9/10.
